Product Description

Stearic acid is a saturated long-chain fatty acid with a straight-chain structure consisting of 18 carbon atoms, with the chemical formula C17H35COOH (C18H36O2). It is widely found in nature, especially in animal fats and certain vegetable oils. Stearic acid presents a white solid form at room temperature, is colourless and odourless, and has low water solubility and high solubility in organic solvents. Industrially, stearic acid can be obtained by hydrolysis of animal and vegetable fats, and is widely used in food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber industries as well as candle manufacturing, etc. It is both an important chemical raw material and a functional additive for a wide range of products.

Product Feature:
Chemical stability: As a saturated fatty acid, stearic acid is relatively chemically stable and not easily oxidised. This stability allows stearic acid to be stored for long periods of time and used in a variety of environments without easily deteriorating or decomposing, thus maintaining the quality and performance of the product .
Reactivity: Although stearic acid itself is relatively stable under normal conditions, it can participate in a variety of chemical reactions such as esterification and saponification. In esterification, stearic acid can react with alcohols to form esters, which are the basis for the production of compounds for a variety of industrial uses (e.g. lubricants, plasticisers).
Interaction with metals: Stearic acid is capable of forming metal salts with metal ions, a property that makes it useful in the manufacture of metal soaps and as a stabiliser and lubricant in a variety of industrial applications. Metallic stearates (e.g., zinc stearate, calcium stearate) are used as heat stabilisers and lubricants in the manufacture of plastics and rubber.
Environmental impacts: Although stearic acid has a low direct environmental impact during production and use, as a chemical substance, environmental management during its production and waste disposal is still very important. The relatively good biodegradability of stearic acid means that it can be broken down relatively easily in the natural environment, reducing the long-term impact on the ecosystem.
